The Van Horn Falcons will face off against the Lexington Minutemen at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Van Horn is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7 runs per game this season.
Van Horn had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the ten-run drubbing they dealt East on Thursday. The Falcons were the clear victors by an 11-1 margin over East. The Falcons not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since April 19, 2024.
Alex Coin made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out eight over four innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run any time he's pitched this season. He was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-2. He also hit a double, marking his first of the season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Gavin Stover, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Bennett Oney-Myers, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI and one double.
Van Horn was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Thursday just wasn't the day for Lexington's offense. They came up short against Holden on Thursday, falling 10-0. The Minutemen have struggled against the Eagles recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive lost meeting.
Lexington's defeat dropped their record down to 1-9. As for Van Horn, their win bumped their record up to 4-2.
Lexington's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Van Horn has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .443. It's a different story for Lexington, though, as they've only averaged .284. Will they be able to contain Van Horn's hitters?
Van Horn came out on top in a nail-biter against Lexington in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, sneaking past 11-10. Do the Falcons have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Minutemen turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
