Calhoun has gone 8-2 against Brown County recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Warriors will head out on the road to square off against the Hornets at 4:30 p.m. Brown County took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Calhoun, who comes in off a win.
While Calhoun's win against West Central co-op [Winchester-Bluffs] wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Warriors had just enough and edged out the Cougars 3-1. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Warriors.
Riley Pohlman spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on four hits and racked up 15 Ks.
At the plate, Conley Klocke was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Layla Longnecker was another key player, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with one run.
Meanwhile, Brown County fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against West Central co-op [Winchester-Bluffs] on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Cougars by a score of 8-7. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last six times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Brown County also got a good showing from Kilyn Oxley, who tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. Oxley has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk any time she's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, Taylor Craven and Jamie Loehr stepped up to the plate in a big way. Craven went 3-for-4 with two runs and one RBI, while Loehr went 2-for-4 with three runs and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Charly Maxwell, who got on base in three of her five plate appearances with two RBI and one double.
Brown County's loss dropped their record down to 4-3. As for Calhoun, their victory bumped their record up to 5-7.
Brown County's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Tuesday. Calhoun has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.1 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Brown County, though, as they've been averaging only 3.9 strikeouts. Will Calhoun keep running through batters, or will the Hornets buck the trend?
Everything went Calhoun's way against Brown County when the teams last played back in April of 2025, as Calhoun made off with a 13-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Warriors since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
