Given Tombstone's advantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 140th, while the Eagles are ranked 284th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Tombstone got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Rachel Thursby out in front who scored 20 points. Thursby is on a roll when it comes to points, as she's now scored 16 or more in the last three games she's played. Emma Rivera was another key contributor, scoring 12 points.
Despite the loss, Santa Rita still got an impressive performance from Jayla Brabham, who scored nine points. That was a full 81.8% of Santa Rita's points, marking the fourth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Tombstone pushed their record up to 15-11 with that win, which was their fifth straight at home. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.8 points per game. As for Santa Rita, they are on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-17.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Tombstone will challenge the Eagles at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Allowing an average of 55.5 points per game, Santa Rita has struggled on the defensive end, but that doesn't have to be the case in this game. As for they, they will head out on the road to face off against Bisbee at 5:30 p.m. on Monday.
