Tustin and Cypress are an even 5-5 against one another since October of 2015, but not for long. After each having a week off, the two teams will shake off the cobwebs and hit the field against one another at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Cypress took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Tustin, who comes in off a win.
Last Friday, Tustin strolled past Yorba Linda with points to spare, taking the game 21-7.

A big part of Tustin's win came down to the chemistry between Ayden Edwards and his top target Hayden Koo. Edwards threw for 217 yards and a pair of TDs while completing 73.1% of his passes while Koo picked up 80 receiving yards and one score. What's more, Edwards racked up 123.4 passer rating, the most he's had since back in September of 2024. A healthy portion of Edwards' aerial production (94 yards to be exact) also went to Jeremiah Salvant.
On the defensive side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Tustin's defense and their three sacks. In that department, Jon Ioane was the leader with two. Tustin got some further help from Jeremiah Williams: he picked up a sack, made nine total tackles (2.0 for loss), and defended one pass.
Meanwhile, while it was all tied up 14-14 at halftime, Cypress was not quite West's equal in the second half last Friday. They took a 33-28 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Warriors. Despite 102 more yards than the Warriors, the Centurions couldn't convert that extra yardage to scores.
Tustin will have to keep a close watch on Bryson Busbee and Ian Do, a pair of players who had a big impact on Cypress' prior game. Busbee rushed for 180 yards and one touchdown while picking up 8.2 yards per carry, while Do gained 72 total yards and three touchdowns.
Don't try to pin the team's loss on the defense: they kept the trenches locked down and allowed a mere 2.3 yards per carry. The team can thank Alijah Ashcraft for the heroic effort on defense: he. Cypress didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 7.2.
This is the second loss in a row for Cypress and nudges their season record down to 3-2. Their recent woes sure aren't a result of their performance when it comes to yards per carry: they averaged an imposing 6.35 yards per carry in those games compared to only 3.2 in the others. As for Tustin, they now also have a winning record of 3-2.
Everything came up roses for Tustin against Cypress in their previous matchup back in October of 2024, as the squad secured a 37-7 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Tillers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
