After flying high against Paris/Faith Walk Academy last Tuesday, Westran came back down to earth. The Westran Hornets took a 62-57 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Moberly Spartans.
Several Hornets players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Cooper Harvey, who went 5-for-12 to rack up 12 points and six rebounds. Another player making a difference was Marshall Kitchen, who dropped a double-double with 13 points and 13 boards.
Even though they lost, Westran smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in 14 consecutive matchups.
Moberly can attribute much of their success to Amar'E Hawkins, who went 5-for-10 en route to 14 points and five rebounds. That's the most points Hawkins has posted since back in December of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Ethan Land, who had six points and eight boards.
Westran's loss dropped their record down to 19-5. As for Moberly, they now have a winning record of 12-11.
Westran has already played their next game, a 64-56 win against Schuyler County on the 18th. As for Moberly, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 65-55 victory against Marshall on the 17th.
