The Naperville Central Redhawks will face off against the West Chicago Wildcats at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Naperville Central is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.6 runs per game this season.
Naperville Central easily dispatched Waubonsie Valley on Wednesday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. The Redhawks fell just short of Neuqua Valley by a score of 3-1 on Thursday. The game snapped a strange streak: the last four times these teams have met, it?s been the away team that?s taken home the W.
Naperville Central saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Natalie Lau, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run. Lau is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played. Meredith Cann also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.
Meanwhile, while West Chicago put up plenty of runs on Thursday, the same can't be said for Streamwood. The Wildcats put the hurt on the Sabres with a sharp 17-0 victory. Considering the Wildcats have won seven contests by more than eight runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Ava Pietanza and Finn Gallagher made a big impact no matter where they played. On the mound, Pietanza pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Gallagher tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, she posted four strikeouts, the most she's had since back in March. At bat, Pietanza went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI, while Gallagher got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.
In other batting news, Jasmyn Trigueros was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and two doubles. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Brielle Borner, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs and two RBI.
West Chicago always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .788. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
West Chicago has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-8 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.8 runs over those games. As for Naperville Central, their defeat dropped their record down to 14-11.
Both Naperville Central and West Chicago just can't seem to miss. The Redhawks have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10 hits per game. However, it's not like West Chicago struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 5.4 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Naperville Central might still be hurting after the 13-0 loss they got from West Chicago in their previous meeting back in May of 2023. Can the Redhawks avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
