7A District 7 recap October 1, 2013
Tampa Bay Tech moved up to 63 from 102 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in 7A District 7. The Titans were able to move up by beating Plant 14-7.
Gaither fell to Durant 26-0 last week, the largest margin of any game. Javon Hammond was a bright spot for the Cowboys, as he in the defeat.
Tampa Bay Tech's offense was unstoppable this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Deon Cain threw for 138 yards and Donzell Polite had 32 yards receiving. On the ground Deon Thompson contributed 147 yards. Daquon Green helped Tampa Bay Tech's passing attack out by catching 3 balls for 30 yards.
Cain put up the best numbers through the air as Jayson Roberts' team defeated the Panthers. Cain's favorite target this week was Polite, who caught 3 passes for 32 yards.
The Titans' Cain and Elijah Spann have formed a dream team this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Cain has thrown for 855 yards this season, while Spann, a 5-foot-6 receiver, has 14 catches for 285 yards. Ray Ray McCloud III from Sickles leads the league in rushing with 801 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Freedom takes on the Gryphons. The Patriots are currently in sixth, while Sickles is in first.
Tampa Bay Tech made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 787 from 1,561. The advance stemmed from a 14-7 victory over Plant last week.
