Basketball Game Preview: Wakefield School Fighting Owls vs. Randolph-Macon Academy Yellow Jackets

The Wakefield School Fighting Owls will head out to take on the Randolph-Macon Academy Yellow Jackets at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Randolph-Macon Academy took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Wakefield School, who comes in off a win.

Wakefield School will roll into the game after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up 20 points back in December of 2024, then bounced right back against Tandem Friends back in December of 2024. Wakefield School took their contest with ease, bagging a 56-13 victory over Tandem Friends. The Fighting Owls have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won three matches by 32 points or more this season.

Meira Barnaby had an outrageously good game as she went 15 of 22 en route to 35 points along with six boards and four steals. Those 35 points gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Andie Mason, who posted six points in addition to 17 boards and six steals.

Wakefield School smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in 11 consecutive games dating back to last season.

Meanwhile, Randolph-Macon Academy's undefeated season came to an end after three games on Friday. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 36-35 to Immanuel Christian. The loss was the Yellow Jackets' first of the season.

Having lost for the first time this season, Randolph-Macon Academy fell to 3-1. As for Wakefield School, their win bumped their record up to 4-2.

Wakefield School strolled past Randolph-Macon Academy in their previous meeting back in February of 2024 by a score of 41-24. The rematch might be a little tougher for Wakefield School since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
