Mississinewa is preparing for their first conference matchup of the season on Tuesday. They will host the Elwood Panthers at 5:00 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
Mississinewa's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Monday. They put the hurt on Marion with a sharp 11-0 win. The Indians might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three matchups by 11 runs or more this season.
Brooklynn Nash made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out nine over four innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three runs and one triple.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Genna Couse, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double. Amiyaa Parr-Inman was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two RBI and one run.
Mississinewa was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .423. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Marion only posted a batting average of .059.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Elwood, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Thursday. They came out on top against Tri-Central by a score of 14-9 on Monday. The victory continues a trend for the Panthers in their matchups with the Trojans: they've now won eight in a row.
Kelsey Armes was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Taylor Hawks, who went 3-for-5 with four runs and one double.
Mississinewa's win was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 7-2. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.9 runs on average this season. As for Elwood, their win bumped their record up to 4-5.
Elwood's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Tuesday. Mississinewa has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Elwood, though, as they've been averaging an even more impressive 4 strikeouts. Will Mississinewa keep running through batters, or will the Panthers buck the trend?
Mississinewa took their victory against Elwood in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 16-7 score. Will the Indians repeat their success, or do the Panthers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
