After two games on the road, Hughson is heading back home. They will take on the Palma Chieftains at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Hughson walked away with it. In a tight match that could have gone either way, they made off with a 40-39 victory over the The Pride.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Hughson to victory, but perhaps none more so than Alexander Villarreal, who rushed for 112 yards and two touchdowns, and also caught a touchdown. Robert Mcdaniel was another key contributor, throwing for 210 yards and three touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Palma came tearing into Friday's game with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 18.7 points) and they left with even more momentum. They strolled past Alisal with points to spare, taking the game 38-20.
Eli Dukes and Thomas Nunes were among the main playmakers for Palma as the former rushed for 161 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 9.5 yards per carry and the latter rushed for 144 yards and two touchdowns on only nine carries.
Hughson is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matches, which provided a nice bump to their 10-3 record this season. As for Palma, their victory bumped their record up to 9-4.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Saturday's game: Hughson has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 203.2 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Palma struggles in that department as they've been even better at 210.1 per game. It's looking like Saturday's contest might have some serious battles in the trenches.
