The Branham Bruins had already won 12 in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 12.8 points), and they went ahead and made it 13 on Wednesday. They managed a 64-60 victory over Leigh. Given Branham's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 86th, while Leigh is ranked 344th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Despite the loss, Leigh still got an impressive performance from Caleb Asante, who shot 5-for-7 from beyond the arc and dropped a double-double on 29 points and ten rebounds. Asante hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for five straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Cooper Smith, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten rebounds.
Branham pushed their record up to 17-1 with that victory, which was their eighth straight on the road. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 67.5 points per game. As for Leigh, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-6.
Branham will be playing in front of their home fans against Evergreen Valley at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Evergreen Valley and Branham are at an even 3-3 over their past six head-to-heads. As for Leigh, they will head out on the road to take on Santa Teresa at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Santa Teresa knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past 18 contests -- so hopefully Leigh likes a good challenge.
