Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but unfortunately for the East Marion Eagles, they weren't the ones who walked away with it. They were outmatched by Velma Jackson on the road and fell 39-0. Having soared to a lofty 42 points in the game before, East Marion couldn't push the score so high this time.
Velma Jackson can attribute much of their success to Terrelle Smith, who threw for 252 yards and three touchdowns on only 17 passes. Ken Young also helped out with an impressive 96 receiving yards.
Velma Jackson's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB five times. The heavy lifting was done by Anthony Walker and Tyshun Willis who racked up five sacks between them.
East Marion's defeat dropped their record down to 3-8. As for Velma Jackson, they pushed their record up to 11-0 with that win, which was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season.
East Marion does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Velma Jackson will be playing at home against South Delta at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. South Delta is coming into the game hot, having won their last four games.
