The Northwood Timberwolves will take on the Rosary Academy Royals at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Northwood has given up an average of 8.3 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Northwood came into their game on Monday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They lost 14-4 to Woodbridge.
Natalie Keith was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three doubles, two RBI, and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Kiana Park, who went 2-for-3 with one double.
Meanwhile, Rosary Academy had already won 13 in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7.4 runs) and they went ahead and made it 14 on Monday. They were the clear victors by a 14-1 margin over the Vaqueros. The result was nothing new for the Royals, who have now won 11 games by six runs or more so far this season.
Ava Phillips looked comfortable as she pitched four innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 15 consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, K'Lene Gutierrez was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March. Hayden Huerta was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Rosary Academy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .565. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .318 or higher in 15 consecutive matchups.
Rosary Academy pushed their record up to 23-2-1 with the victory, which was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.2 runs over those games. As for Northwood, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-9 record this season.
Both Northwood and Rosary Academy just can't seem to miss. The Timberwolves have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 8.9 hits per game. However, it's not like Rosary Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 4.8 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Northwood suffered a grim 11-1 defeat to Rosary Academy in their previous matchup two weeks ago. Will the Timberwolves have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more softball content.
