The Taft Eagles will face off against the Maine South Hawks at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Taft is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9 runs per game this season.
Taft is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They never let Maine West get on the board and left with a 10-0 win. The victory continues a trend for the Eagles in their matchups with the Warriors: they've now won four in a row.
Michaela Power made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out eight over six innings pitched. Power was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three RBI and one double.
In other batting news, Gabriela Gonzalez and Dylan Martinez did most of the damage at the plate: Gonzalez went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two doubles, and one run, while Martinez went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most doubles Gonzalez has posted since back in May of 2025. Another player making a difference was Haley Eccarius, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and one double.
Taft was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .467. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Maine West only posted a batting average of .050.
Maine South came out on top against Whitney Young on Friday thanks in part to the team's impressive six-run sixth inning. The Hawks had just enough and edged out the Dolphins 7-6.
Maine South also got a great performance from Layla Rode as she pitched 4.2 innings while giving up three earned runs off five hits.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Ella Piazza, who went 1-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. Riley Story was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Maine South's win bumped their record up to 11-13. As for Taft, their victory bumped their record up to 23-7.
Tuesday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Taft hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .366. However, it's not like Maine South struggles in that department as they've averaged .365. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Taft came out on top in a nail-biter against Maine South when the teams last played back in April of 2025, sneaking past 11-9. Do the Eagles have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Hawks turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
