Logan Cortes made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 2.2 innings while giving up just one earned run but no hits. What's more, he posted five strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Tico Lentz, who scored three runs and stole Three bases. while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in March of 2024. Baylor Arnold was another key player, scoring a run and stealing Three bases. while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.
Veritas Prep always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .564. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Lincoln Prep only posted an OBP of .321.
Meanwhile, the third road game was the charm for Scottsdale Christian Academy, as they earned their first road win of the season. They came out on top against Fountain Hills by a score of 4-1 on Tuesday.
Owen Kendrick was a major factor no matter where he played. He struck out nine batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and only one walk). What's more, he gave up only one walk, the fewest he's had since back in April of 2024. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one double.
Kendrick wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Dylan Tims, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-4. David Anderson also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Scottsdale Christian Academy's victory ended a five-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 2-4. Even worse, they were so close so many times: the defeats came by an average of only 1.6 runs. As for Veritas Prep, they now have a winning record of 2-1.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Veritas Prep has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Scottsdale Christian Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6.7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Veritas Prep suffered a grim 13-2 defeat to Scottsdale Christian Academy when the teams last played back in May of 2022. Can Veritas Prep avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
