Basketball Recap: Emily Marquez's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Arizona School for the Deaf & Blind over Patagonia

If Arizona School for the Deaf & Blind was feeling good fresh off their 39-6 takedown of Lourdes Catholic last Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Arizona School for the Deaf & Blind Sentinels fell 39-29 to the Patagonia Lobos on Wednesday. The Sentinels have struggled against the Lobos recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive lost matchup.

Arizona School for the Deaf & Blind's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Emily Marquez, who posted eight points. That's the most points Marquez has posted since back in January of 2024. Isabell Tena also deserves some recognition as she scored her first points of the season.

Patagonia got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Valeria Castellanos out in front who had eight points in addition to 11 rebounds and three steals. Another player making a difference was Brianna Majalca, who earned nine points and three steals.

Arizona School for the Deaf & Blind's loss dropped their record down to 1-10. As for Patagonia, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 4-12 record this season.

Arizona School for the Deaf & Blind didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 59-16 defeat against Valley Union on the 24th. Patagonia has also already played their next contest, a 33-32 victory against Ray on the 25th.
