Softball Recap: Grant Wins Going Away Against Fairview

It was a proper cat-fight when Grant challenged Fairview on Friday. The Cougars blew past the Panthers 11-1. The Cougars might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten games by six runs or more this season.

Peyton Kirtland was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 1-for-3. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Carleigh Roe, who scored a run and stole a base while going 3-for-3. Saydie Willson was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.

The victory made it two in a row for Grant and bumps their season record up to 15-11. It's not like the team was facing easy opposition over that stretch either, as it included 17-9 Montgomery (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 57.7% over those games). As for Fairview, their defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 7-7.

Grant has already played their next match (against Montgomery), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Fairview also has no score uploaded for their next contest, this one against LaSalle.
