Baseball Recap: Girard Takes a Loss

Girard dropped their record down to 11-4 on Friday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins. They lost 14-1 to the Greenville Trojans. If the Yellowjackets were looking for revenge after losing 8-5 to the Trojans when the teams met back in May of 2018, then they'll just have to keep looking.

As for Greenville, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 13-1. The team dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 11.2 runs.

For Greenville's part, Justin Schell was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single hit and allowing only one earned run while striking out six over five innings pitched. Schell has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one hit in three consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 4-for-4 with four stolen bases, four runs, and three RBI. Those four stolen bases gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Brandon Stubert, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple. Nick Solderich was another key player, going 3-for-4 with three runs and two doubles.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Girard will welcome Fairview at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Greenville, they will host Clarion Area at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
