Ashley hasn't had much luck against Lumberton recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Screaming Eagle will look to defend their home field against the Pirates at 6:00 p.m.
West Brunswick hit Ashley with a four-run fifth inning on Tuesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Screaming Eagle lost 7-1 to the Trojans.
Ashley saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Skyler Horrell, who went 1-for-3 with one triple.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Lumberton, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Friday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Richmond Senior a 13-0 shutout on Monday. The result was nothing new for the Pirates, who have now won seven contests by six runs or more so far this season.
The result came thanks to Norah Johnson's shutout, as she gave up just three hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Ava Hanna, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, six RBI, and three runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March of 2025. Another player making a difference was Jaelyn Hammond, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI.
Lumberton hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least five batters in nine consecutive matchups.
Lumberton pushed their record up to 13-10 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.2 runs over those games. As for Ashley, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-15.
Ashley suffered a grim 8-2 defeat to Lumberton in their previous meeting back in March. Will the Screaming Eagle have more luck at home instead of on the road? Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other softball content.
