Highland is a perfect 9-0 against Whiting since April of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Trojans will be playing in front of their home fans against the Oilers at 4:30 p.m. Highland will be strutting in after a win while Whiting will be coming in after a loss.
Highland took a loss when they played away from home on Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Thursday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Hammond Morton a 9-0 shutout. The Trojans not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since May 25, 2024 (when they won 10-0).
Highland got a great performance from Jakob Burleson as he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over five innings pitched.
On the hitting side, Nate Phillips was excellent, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one triple. That triple was his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Danijel Zekavica, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs.
Highland hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Hammond Morton struck out seven times.
Meanwhile, Whiting came up short against South Central on Wednesday, falling 15-3. The defeat continues a trend for the Oilers in their meetings with the Satellites: they've now lost three in a row.
Kasen Dunn was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-3 with five stolen bases, one run, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaiden Nunez, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one run.
Highland's victory bumped their record up to 2-5. As for Whiting, their loss dropped their record down to 1-4.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. Highland has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Whiting struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 5 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Everything went Highland's way against Whiting when the teams last played back in April of 2024, as Highland made off with an 11-1 win. Will the Trojans repeat their success, or do the Oilers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
