Avery Burghart made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out ten batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off four hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-5 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
In other batting news, Tori Townsend and Rachel Force did most of the damage at the plate: Townsend went a perfect 4-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run, while Force got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Those three runs gave Force a new career-high. Amanda Daniels also deserves some recognition as she got her first hit of the season.
The Christian Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .581. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
King's Christian hit The Pilgrim Academy with a four-run first inning on Tuesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Pioneers lost 10-0 to the Knights. The game marked the first time this year in which the Pioneers were not able to get on the board.
The Pilgrim Academy saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Mia Robinson, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one stolen base.
The Christian Academy moved to 4-8 with that win, which also ended their four-game losing streak. As for The Pilgrim Academy, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-7.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. The Christian Academy has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like The Pilgrim Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 8.7 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
