Winning is just a little bit easier when you work as a team to rack up 11 more assists than your opponent, a fact the Mendon Hornets proved on Thursday. They took their matchup at home with ease, bagging a 66-26 victory over Athens. That 40 point margin sets a new team best for Mendon this season.
Mendon's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Ryder Gorham, who scored 20 points. Quincy Blair was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 14 points and ten rebounds.
Despite the defeat, Athens had strong showings from Kale Kiefer, who scored nine points, and Addison Stanton, who scored five points along with two steals.
Mendon pushed their record up to 9-8 with that victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.0 points per game. As for Athens, they still haven't won a game yet this season and fell to 0-15.
Mendon will head out on the road to square off against St. Philip Catholic Central at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Mendon is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 55.9 points per game this season. Athens' road trip will continue as they head out to face Calhoun Christian at 7:30 p.m. on February 6th. Hopefully Athens focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 16 on Thursday.
