Gulliver Prep is 4-0 against Mater Academy Charter since January of 2016, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Monday. The Gulliver Prep Raiders will look to defend their home court against the Mater Academy Charter Lions at 3:30 p.m. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
Last Thursday, Gulliver Prep was just a bucket shy of victory and fell 40-39 to Ransom Everglades.
Despite the defeat, Gulliver Prep saw an underclassman step up: Mikayla Brown scored 16 points along with seven rebounds and five assists. That was a full 41% of Gulliver Prep's points, marking the fourth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Allison Podvin, who scored ten points.
Meanwhile, Mater Academy Charter ended up a good deal behind Braddock back in December of 2023 and lost 51-33. While losing is never fun, Mater Academy Charter can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 407th, while Braddock is ranked 179th).
Gulliver Prep's defeat dropped their record down to 8-4. As for Mater Academy Charter, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-8.
Gulliver Prep was able to grind out a solid win over Mater Academy Charter in their previous matchup back in January of 2018, winning 53-44. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Mater Academy Charter's Elizabeth Dalmau, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 11 rebounds.
