Independence will face off against the Broad Run Spartans at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Independence will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak.
Independence came out on top against Potomac Falls on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive six-run second inning. Independence was the clear victor by an 11-1 margin over Potomac Falls. Independence might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six matches by six runs or more this season.
Kayden Pak tossed a big game, striking out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk any time she's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Halliday Fulcher and Andraya Santos did most of the damage at the plate: Fulcher went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI, while Santos went a perfect 3-for-3 with three doubles and four RBI. Santos is on a roll when it comes to RBI, as she's now brought in three or more in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Emma Stringer, who went 2-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.
Independence kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits every time they've taken the field this season.
Meanwhile, Thursday just wasn't the day for Broad Run's offense. They took a 3-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of Loudoun County on Thursday. The Spartans have struggled against the Captains recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost meeting.
Independence pushed their record up to 8-1 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Broad Run, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-5.
Broad Run's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Independence hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .373. It's a different story for Broad Run, though, as they've only averaged .246. Will they be able to contain Independence's hitters?
Everything went Independence's way against Broad Run in their previous meeting on April 8th, as Independence made off with an 8-2 win. Does Independence have another victory up their sleeve, or will Broad Run turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
