Hug is 0-10 against Reed since January of 2017 but things could change on Friday. The Hawks will host the Raiders at 7:00 p.m. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.
Hug is headed into the contest out to prove that what happened against Spanish Springs on Wednesday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. The Hawks took a blow against the Cougars, falling 78-44. The Hawks were down 64-35 at the end of the third quarter, and things only got worse from there.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Elijah Herbert, who dropped a double-double with 21 points and 14 boards. That was a full 47.7% of Hug's points, marking the sixth time in a row Herbert has posted more than a third of the team's points. Jordan Vega was another key player, putting up 12 points.
Meanwhile, Reed had to suffer through an 80-52 loss at the hands of Reno. The Raiders haven't had much luck with the Huskies recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.
Like Hug, Reed lost despite seeing results from several players. Jacoby Harms led the charge by going 5-for-11 on his way to 14 points. Harms continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Xavier Hoffman, who put up eight points.
Hug's defeat dropped their record down to 2-9. As for Reed, they now have a losing record of 8-9.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Hug has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 24.6 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Reed struggles in that department as they've been averaging 26 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Hug couldn't quite finish off Reed in their previous meeting back in December of 2023 and fell 51-49. Can the Hawks avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
