The Ashley Screaming Eagle suffered their biggest defeat since December 15, 2023 on Wednesday. They were the victim of a tough 39-17 defeat at the hands of Hoggard. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Ashley has scored all season.
Despite the defeat, Ashley had strong showings from Bella Cook, who scored ten points along with six rebounds, and Jaeden Hudson, who scored two points along with two steals. Hudson has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times she's played.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Ashley struggled to work together and finished the game with only three assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Hoggard racked up 12 assists.
Hoggard's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Tristan Shivers, who scored 12 points along with seven assists. Another player making a difference was Avery Fitzgerald, who scored nine points along with six rebounds and two steals.
This is the second loss in a row for Ashley and nudges their season record down to 9-8. As for Hoggard, the win was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 16-1.
Ashley will head out on the road to challenge New Hanover at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. New Hanover will be looking to keep their seven-game home win streak alive. Hoggard will take on Laney at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Laney will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings (they are ranked 128th, while Hoggard is ranked 17th).
