On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Hayden Hunt, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Courtland Gibson, who went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when South Warren and Logan County meet (four straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Thursday. The Spartans came out on top against the Cougars by a score of 11-8.
South Warren also got a great performance from Ty Croghan as he pitched five innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits.
At the plate, Justin Capps was incredible, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Brandon Perkins Jr., who went 1-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
South Warren is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine games. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-3 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.1 runs over those games. As for University Heights, they pushed their record up to 13-5 with the victory, which was their third straight at home.
University Heights came out on top in a nail-biter against South Warren in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, sneaking past 8-6. Will the Blazers repeat their success, or do the Spartans have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
