The Cheshire Academy Cats will head out on the road to face off against the Suffield Academy Tigers at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Cheshire Academy is looking to tack on another W to their four-game streak on the road.
Last Saturday, Cheshire Academy's game was all tied up 14-14 at the half, but luckily for them it didn't stay that way. They put the hurt on Taft School with a sharp 44-20 win. Given Cheshire Academy's advantage in MaxPreps' Connecticut football rankings (they are ranked third, while Taft School is ranked 33rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Cheshire Academy relied on the efforts of Dante Reno, who threw for 253 yards and three touchdowns, and Shawn Mills, who rushed for 129 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 7.2 yards per carry. Mills was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 69 yards. Cheshire Academy also got help from Teriq Mallory who showed off his sure hands for 86 receiving yards.
Meanwhile, Suffield Academy's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their fourth straight loss. They took a 24-20 hit to the loss column at the hands of Phillips Academy.
Cheshire Academy's victory bumped their season record to 6-1 while Suffield Academy's defeat dropped theirs to 2-6.
Cheshire Academy came up short against Suffield Academy when the teams last played back in November of 2022, falling 19-7. Can Cheshire Academy avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
