The Shaker Heights Red Raiders will challenge the Lorain Titans at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Shaker Heights has given up an average of 6.9 runs per game this season, but Saturday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Shaker Heights fell victim to Mentor and their airtight pitching crew on Wednesday. They came up short against the Cardinals, falling 14-0. The Red Raiders have struggled against the Cardinals recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive lost meeting.
Meanwhile, Lorain entered their tilt with Euclid on Thursday with five consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with six. They put the hurt on the Panthers with a sharp 17-8 win. 17 seems to be a good number for the Titans as the team scooped up a victory with the same number of runs in their previous game.
Kyraa Swiger was a standout: she went 1-for-4 with one home run, two stolen bases, and four RBI. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Alayna Warren was another key player, going 3-for-5 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base.
Lorain was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .464. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .455 or higher in nine consecutive matchups.
Lorain's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 10-4. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 17.3 runs over those games. As for Shaker Heights, their loss dropped their record down to 7-4.
Saturday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Shaker Heights hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .327. However, it's not like Lorain struggles in that department as they've averaged .461. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Shaker Heights' way against Lorain in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, as Shaker Heights made off with a 13-2 win. Do the Red Raiders have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Titans turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
