The Wausau West Warriors scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Tuesday. Everything went their way against Merrill as Wausau West made off with a 84-62 win. Given Wausau West's advantage in MaxPreps' Wisconsin basketball rankings (they are ranked 111th, while Merrill is ranked 247th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Leading Wausau West to victory were Griffin Lange and Brett Butalla. Lange scored 17 points along with seven rebounds and two steals, while Butalla scored 19 points along with six assists and two steals. That's the first time this season that Lange scored 15 or more points. Lucas Hager was another key contributor, scoring 16 points.
Wausau West has been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 12 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 11-5 record this season. As for Merrill, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-9.
Wausau West will head out on the road to square off against Stevens Point at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Merrill, they will be playing at home against Wausau East at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday. Wausau East has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 445 points over their last six games.
