Baseball Game Preview: Dakota Indians vs. Durand/Pecatonica Rivermen

The Dakota Indians will take on the Durand/Pecatonica Rivermen at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

Dakota fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Pearl City on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took an 11-8 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Wolves. While the Indians didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Wolves 6-0 in the first period.

Braxton Mazurkiewicz was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and two runs. He has become a key player for Dakota: the team is 5-2 when he posts at least two runs, but 6-9 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Avery Bowers, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one run and one double.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Durand/Pecatonica). They blew past Orangeville 14-8 on Monday. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Rivermen as it put an end to their eight-game losing streak.

Durand/Pecatonica's victory was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-5 and their overall record up to 3-14. As for Dakota, their defeat was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 11-11.

Dakota skirted past Durand/Pecatonica 2-1 in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Will the Indians repeat their success, or do the Rivermen have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
