The Mt. Vernon Wildcats's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fourth straight loss. They opened the new year with a less-than-successful 61-53 loss to Forest Park. Mt. Vernon lost against Forest Park in their previous head to head back in January of 2023, too, but the margin this time around was much wider than the 70-46 score last time.
Defeat or not, Mt. Vernon got some senior leadership from Nicot Burnett who scored 19 points along with five assists and Jackson Clowers who scored 20 points along with eight rebounds. Clowers scored a full 37.7% of Mt. Vernon's points, the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Meyer Robb, who scored six points.
Mt. Vernon has not been sharp recently, as they've lost five of their last six matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-5 record this season. As for Forest Park, their win bumped their record up to 7-4.
Mt. Vernon won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against North Posey at 7:30 p.m. on January 6th. One thing working in North Posey's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last four games. Forest Park won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Perry Central at 8:00 p.m. on January 6th.
