Meanwhile, Sunrise Mountain is ranked highly in their home state and on Saturday they took on another highly ranked team in the form of Davis. The Mustangs put the hurt on the Darts with a sharp 11-1 victory. That looming 11-1 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Mustangs yet this season.
Easton Thomas made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing five innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.
In other batting news, Fernando Cabral was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. That stolen base marked the first that he has snagged this season. Dylan Cox was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with four runs.
The win got Cherokee Trail back to even at 1-1. As for Sunrise Mountain, their record is now 6-3.
Cherokee Trail might still be hurting after the 6-0 defeat they got from Sunrise Mountain in their previous meeting back in March of 2024. Can the Cougars avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
