The Harrison Hornets are taking a road trip to take on the Vestaburg Wolverines at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Harrison has given up an average of 7.7 runs per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
On Thursday, Harrison came up short against St. Louis and fell 11-8. The Hornets have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Matthew Latunski made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. That triple marked the first that he has hit this season. Another player making a difference was Josh O'Day, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Vestaburg). Everything went their way against Marion on Monday as they made off with a 17-0 victory. Considering the Wolverines' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.
Jansen Scholer was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out six over four innings pitched. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Vestaburg is 3-1 when he allows at most two walks, but 4-10 otherwise. Scholer was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with five RBI, one run, and one double. Those five RBI gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, Colton Halgren was a standout: he got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs, three RBI, and one triple. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in May of 2025. The team also got some help courtesy of Carter Allbee, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one double.
Vestaburg's record now sits at 7-11. As for Harrison, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-17.
Harrison was able to grind out a solid win over Vestaburg in their previous matchup back in April of 2016, winning 6-3. Do the Hornets have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Wolverines turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
