4A Region II District 9 recap November 5, 2013
Liberty moved up to 547 from 602 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in 4A Region II District 9. The Redhawks climbed the ranks as a result of topping Prosper 23-21.
Centennial and The Colony played the most contested game in the league this week, with Centennial eventually emerging with a 21-20 victory. Kelly Cordova threw for 168 yards and 2 touchdowns and ran for 24 yards during the win.
The Eagles' offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Chase Dawkins threw for 163 and 2 touchdowns and Chris Jackson had 103 yards receiving. On the ground Marquez Houston chipped in 147 yards. Zack English helped Prosper's passing attack out by catching 4 balls for 51 yards.
Prosper's dynamic duo of Dawkins and Jackson proved tough for Liberty to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. English helped Prosper's passing attack out by catching 4 balls for 51 yards.
Ben Banogu was a key player and the best on defense this week as Kent Scott's team lost to Galen Zimmerman's team. He racked up 1 sack.
Cordova provided a threat through the air and on the ground as the Titans topped the Cougars. Cordova's favorite target this week was DJ Jackson, who caught 3 passes for 71 yards.
Leading the league in both passing and receiving yards, Centennial's Cordova and Devin McCord have proven to be a lethal combination. Cordova has thrown for 2,094 yards this season, while McCord has 46 catches for 680 yards. Bryan Hammond from The Colony leads the league in rushing with 1,572 yards.
An important game coming up in 4A Region II District 9 this week will be when Mark Howard's team takes on Heritage. At the moment, the Titans are in second, while the Coyotes are in fifth.
The Redhawks made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 5,402 from 6,100. The improvement was largely due to a 23-21 victory over the Eagles last week.
