The Tarboro Vikings lost against the Gates County Red Barons back in February of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. Tarboro had to suffer through a rough 62-13 loss at the hands of the Red Barons. While losing is never fun, Tarboro can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 500th, while the Red Barons are ranked 120th).
Gates County found their leader in underclassman London Barber, who scored 21 points along with eight rebounds and two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Barber has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Semayia Cross, who scored eight points along with eight steals.
Tarboro dropped their record down to 5-11 with that defeat, which was their third straight on the road. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 23.3 points per game. As for Gates County, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 14-4.
Coincidentally, Tarboro and the Red Barons will both be playing the Falcons the next time they take the court. Gates County will head out to face Bertie at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, while Tarboro will host them at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
