Each year since 2006, MaxPreps has recognized outstanding performers in prep basketball. America's source for high school sports continues the tradition to close out the 2023-24 season by naming the top player in each state. Selections are based on team success and individual excellence in addition to local and state accolades.
Trent Perry of
Harvard-Westlake (Studio City) is the 2023-24 California MaxPreps Player of the Year. The 6-foot-4 senior guard led the Wolverines to a 33-3 record and their second consecutive Open Division state championship.
For the season, Perry averaged 18.6 points, 6.1 rebounds and 5.9 assists per contest while shooting 55 percent from the field, 47.2 percent from 3-point range and 86 percent from the free throw line.

Harvard-Westlake won 108 games in Perry's four years with the program.
Regarded as the No. 51 prospect in the Class of 2024 according to
247Sports, Perry signed with USC in November over offers from Colorado, Gonzaga, Illinois, Oklahoma, Oregon, Saint Mary's, Stanford, TCU and Virginia among others.
