Hurricane dropped down to 11-12 on Wednesday, ending the team's five-game streak of wins. They fell 10-6 to the Desert Hills Thunder. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Thunder this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 14-4 back in March.
Audrey Sattler spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and eight unearned) runs on three hits.
At the plate, Addi Lauritzen was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Ruby Seely, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs.
As for Desert Hills, the win was the 17th in a row for them, bringing their record up to 24-2. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games.
On Desert Hills' side, Lulu West made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and three unearned) runs off five hits. With that strong performance, West is now averaging an impressive 5.1 strikeouts per game. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one RBI.
In other batting news, Kamri Yergensen was excellent, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in March. Reagan Rivera was another key player, earning three runs and two stolen bases.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Hurricane will take on Dixie at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Tigers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Flyers have averaged an impressive 7.4 runs per game this season. As for Desert Hills, they will square off against Spanish Fork at 3:30 p.m. on Friday.
