Chavez had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They were the clear victors by a 22-0 margin over the Stagg Delta Kings on Tuesday. The Titans have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Delta Kings, too.
Chavez found their leader in sophomore Melanie Lazaro, who rushed for 90 yards and one touchdown on only eight carries, and also picked up 73 receiving yards and one TD. Lazaro got the majority of those rushing yards when he took off on a run that went for an incredible 60 yards.
Chavez didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off four passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Rowen Fongkhamdeng and Natalin Hout. Chavez got some further help from Kalolaine Fakahua: she picked up three sacks, made five total tackles, and defended one pass.
Coming up, Chavez will take on East Union in a tournament on Saturday. As for Stagg, they will head out to challenge River Islands at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
