Basketball Recap: Bella Fletcher's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Pikes Peak Christian over Denver Waldorf

Pikes Peak Christian was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their sixth straight defeat dating back to last season. They were six points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 31-25 heartbreaker at the hands of the Denver Waldorf Spartans. One positive for the Eagles, at least, is that this was the most points they've scored all season.

Pikes Peak Christian's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Bella Fletcher, who posted seven points along with 12 boards and seven steals. Fletcher is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last 22 games she's played dating back to last season. Annaliece Fisher was another key player, putting up nine points and four steals.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Denver Waldorf to victory, but perhaps none more so than Maelen Roybal, who had four points along with eight rebounds and five steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Sula Schuyler, who put up six points in addition to nine boards and four steals.

Pikes Peak Christian's defeat dropped their record down to 0-4. As for Denver Waldorf, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-2.

Pikes Peak Christian wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 36-24 win against Belleview Christian on the 21st. As for Denver Waldorf, they will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Golden View Classical Academy at 5:30 p.m. on January 6, 2025. Denver Waldorf's defense has only allowed 27.7 points per game this season, so Golden View Classical Academy's offense will have their work cut out for them.
