The Garden Griffins had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They came out on top against Lexington School for the Deaf by a score of 60-50 on Thursday.
Several Blue Jays players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Cristhian De La Cruz, who scored 20 points along with three steals. The matchup was De La Cruz's fourth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Hunter Larsen, who scored 18 points.
Garden's win bumped their record up to 1-0. As for Lexington School for the Deaf, their loss dropped their record down to 2-2.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Garden will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on United Nations International at 4:30 p.m. on January 5, 2024. Lexington School for the Deaf will be home for the holidays to greet New York School for the Deaf at 5:15 p.m. on Tuesday. New York School for the Deaf comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 22 points in their last four games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse.
