The Montrose Meteors will head out on the road to face off against the Mountain View Eagles at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Montrose is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.5 runs per game this season.
Montrose is probably headed into the matchup with a chip on their shoulder considering Elk Lake just ended the team's three-game winning streak on Wednesday. They lost 9-1 to the Warriors. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Meteors have suffered since April 8, 2024.
Montrose saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Hudson Aukema, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. Aukema is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games he's played.
Meanwhile, Mountain View came tearing into Wednesday's contest with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 4.3 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They walked away with an 11-7 victory over the Chargers. That's two games straight that the Eagles have won by exactly four runs.
Jordan Jagger made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He is becoming a predictor of Mountain View's success: when he allows at most two hits the team is undefeated (and 5-6 when he doesn't). Jagger was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ziggy Bradford, who went 1-for-4 with four stolen bases and three runs. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Jackson Gesford, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.
Mountain View kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in four consecutive games.
Montrose's defeat dropped their record down to 7-6. As for Mountain View, their record is now 8-6.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Montrose has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.7 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Mountain View struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 4.4 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Montrose skirted past Mountain View 8-7 when the teams last played back in April. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Meteors since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
