6A Central Valley recap September 17, 2013
South Salem's Benton Josh recorded the longest rushing play in 6A Central Valley this season in his game against Beaverton last week. Josh's team bested the Beavers as he sprinted for 86 yards on the play and finished with 160 in all.
South Salem was able to crack the Top 25 in the state rankings this week after defeating Beaverton. The Saxons came in at 25 in the state poll after placing at number 34 last week.
McKay's dynamic duo of Sam Harris and Jorge Garibay proved to be unstoppable against Reynolds, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Harris threw for 408 yards and 4 touchdowns and Garibay had 120 yards receiving. Brandon Lao helped McKay's passing attack out by catching 3 balls for 83 yards.
The Scots' dynamic duo of Harris and Garibay proved tough for the Raiders to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week.
Thomas Harris was the most successful running back in the league this week. In 29 carries, he ran for 192 yards as Sprague lost to Reynolds. Teammate Tanner Fisher added to the ground attack by rushing for 48 yards.
Harris put up the best numbers through the air as Brett Rhodes' team fell to Dustin Janz's team.
Garibay was the best receiver in the league this week as the Scots lost to the Raiders.
He went 17-31 with 3 interceptions.
McKay's Harris and Kris Williams have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading 6A Central Valley in both passing and receiving yards. Harris has thrown for 816 yards this season, while Williams has 13 catches for 240 yards. Harris from the Olympians leads the league in rushing with 429 yards.
An important game coming up in the league this week will be when Sprague takes on West Salem. Jay Minyard's team is currently in third, while the Titans are in first.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when the Olympians take on West Salem. Sprague has allowed 72 points this season, while Shawn Stanley's team has given up 62. The Olympians allowed 14 points last week as they defeated Mountain View.
South Salem and Bob Boyer's team played the most contested game in the league this week, with South Salem eventually emerging with a 28-22 victory. Josh caught 1 passes for 49 yards in the win.
