Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Kings Mountain). They claimed a resounding 102-74 win over the North Gaston Wildcats. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Mountaineers as it put an end to their five-game losing streak.
Kings Mountain got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Kee'Donn Linney out in front who went 11 of 18 en route to 27 points along with five boards and three steals. The matchup was Linney's third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ethan Daniel, who went 9 of 18 on his way to 24 points and seven rebounds.
Kings Mountain smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in 14 consecutive contests.
Despite the loss, North Gaston still got an impressive performance from Markell Carothers, who went 8 of 20 on his way to 25 points along with eight boards and five assists. That's the most assists Carothers has posted since back in December of 2023. The team also got some help courtesy of Jalen Howard, who went 9 of 18 on his way to 19 points and eight boards.
The victory got Kings Mountain back to even at 7-7. As for North Gaston, their loss was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 6-9.
Kings Mountain will challenge Forestview at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Kings Mountain has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for North Gaston, they will take on Ashbrook at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Ashbrook will roll in looking for their 12th straight win, something North Gaston surely won't give up without a fight.
