On Saturday, Surry County opened the new year with a less-than-successful 59-46 defeat to Ridgecroft. Surry County has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Ridgecroft's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Baylor Edwards, who scored 19 points. The game was Edwards' fifth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Antron Gray, who scored 13 points.
Surry County bumped their record down to 2-9 with that loss, which was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Ridgecroft, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 10-3 record this season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Surry County will face off against Franklin at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Franklin presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Surry County in Virginia (Franklin is ranked 97th, while Surry County is ranked 385th). As for Ridgecroft, they will head out on the road to face off against Pungo Christian Academy at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Each of these teams will be battling to keep a three-game winning streak alive.
