The Mount Abram Roadrunners will head out to square off against the Dirigo Cougars at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Mount Abram's pitching crew has only allowed four runs per game this season, so Dirigo's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
On Wednesday, Mount Abram made easy work of Mountain Valley and carried off a 12-6 win. Considering the Roadrunners have won three matchups by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Brennan Mitchell made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (four). He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. That double was his first of the season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Walker Wolfe, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. That double marked the first that he has hit this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Killian Pillsbury, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Meanwhile, Monday just wasn't the day for Dirigo's offense. They lost 6-0 to Gray-New Gloucester on Monday. The game marked the first time this season in which the Cougars were not able to get on the board.
Dirigo saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Trevor Crosby, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base.
Mount Abram pushed their record up to 5-1 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.6 runs on average over those games. As for Dirigo, the loss snapped their winning streak at four games and leaves them with a 4-3 record.
Mount Abram took their victory against Dirigo in their previous meeting back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 12-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Roadrunners since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
