The Westlake Charter Explorers pushed their score all the way to 69 on Thursday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 79-69 hit to the loss column at the hands of John Adams Academy. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Tuesday (60), Westlake Charter still had to take the loss.
Westlake Charter's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Brian Ash, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 14 rebounds. Ash hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for six straight games. Another player making a difference was Sysco Vela, who scored 20 points along with six rebounds.
Westlake Charter struggled to work together and finished the game with only three assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as John Adams Academy racked up 11 assists.
John Adams Academy was led to victory by Josh Harris and Isaiah McKee. Harris dropped a double-double on 23 points and 20 rebounds, while McKee dropped a double-double on 31 points and 13 rebounds. That makes it 11 consecutive games in which McKee has scored at least a third of John Adams Academy's points. Luciano Allen was another key contributor, scoring five points along with three steals.
Westlake Charter's loss was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 9-13. As for John Adams Academy, their victory ended a five-game drought on the road and puts them at 11-14.
Westlake Charter does not have any more games scheduled as of now. John Adams Academy also has no future games currently scheduled.
