Basketball Game Preview: Rocky River Pirates vs. Chaminade Julienne Catholic Eagles

The Rocky River Pirates will wrap up 2024 with a road trip to face off against the Chaminade Julienne Catholic Eagles at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Rocky River is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 54.9 points per game this season.

Last Friday, the stars were shining brightly for Rocky River in a 48-33 win over Bay. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Pirates.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Rocky River to victory, but perhaps none more so than Elizabeth Lang, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 12 boards. Lang is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down ten or more in the last five games she's played. Another player making a difference was Claudia Roche, who posted seven points in addition to six rebounds and six steals.

Rocky River smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in ten consecutive matches.

Meanwhile, Chaminade Julienne Catholic put another one in the bag last Saturday to keep their perfect season alive. They strolled past Carroll with points to spare, taking the game 42-27. Given the Eagles' advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked ninth, while the Patriots are ranked 63rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Chaminade Julienne Catholic pushed their record up to 7-0 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 58.8 points per game. As for Rocky River, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a nice bump to their 8-2 record this season.
