Senior shortstop Kayla Braud completed her softball career with an incredible national-record 103-game hitting streak Saturday while helping Eugene's Marist nip Henley, 2-1, in Corvalis to win Oregon’s Class 4A state title for the second year in a row.
Braud, who set the record of 73 last year, never went hitless during her brilliant four-year career. She preserved her streak by beating out an infield single in the fifth inning. Prior to last year the record had stood at 46.
Sophomore pitcher Nyree White added frosting to the victory cake by firing a no-hitter with 11 strikeouts and just two walks.
The nationally-ranked Spartans finished with a 29-1 record and will lose only two starters through graduation.
MaxPreps.com will have more on Braud this week.
