MAST Community Charter is a perfect 10-0 against Calvary Christian Academy since May of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. The Panthers will venture away from home to square off against the Cougars at 3:30 p.m. MAST Community Charter is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.4 runs per game this season.
MAST Community Charter is headed into the match having just posted their closest win since May 3, 2024 last Tuesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 7-5 victory over Collegium Charter. Nicholas Carsley made a splash while hitting and pitching. He struck out six batters over 2.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Carsley was also solid in the batter's box, earning one run and three stolen bases.
In other batting news, Mason Haldeman was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was David Kondravy, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and one run.
Meanwhile, Calvary Christian Academy waltzed into their game on Tuesday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They put the hurt on George School with a sharp 25-14 victory. Considering Calvary Christian Academy has won five contests by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Like MAST Community Charter, Calvary Christian Academy also got a great game from a two-way player: Caleb Leader. On the mound, he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Leader is becoming a predictor of Calvary Christian Academy's success: when he allows at most one hit the team is 2-1 (and 3-4 when he doesn't). Leader was even better at the plate, going 3-for-5 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played.
Leader wasn't the only one making solid contact as eight players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Nathan Flasnburg, who got on base in five of his six plate appearances with five runs, two stolen bases, and two RBI. Calvary Christian Academy is 2-1 when Flasnburg posts two or more stolen bases, but 3-4 otherwise. Jesse Egan was another, going 1-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Calvary Christian Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .615. The last time their OBP was this high was back in April of 2024.
Calvary Christian Academy's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 5-5. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 17.7 runs over those games. As for MAST Community Charter, the win also got them back to even at 5-5.
Wednesday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. MAST Community Charter has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .467. However, it's not like Calvary Christian Academy struggles in that department as they've averaged .453. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
MAST Community Charter skirted past Calvary Christian Academy 4-2 when the teams last played back in April of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Panthers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
